Howard Johnson by Wyndham Chattanooga Lookout Mountain I-24

A nice view of the surrounding mountains, hot showers with good pressure, and a clean room made this a great overnight stop. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and the front desk staff were incredibly nice when I arrived overnight and again in the morning when I got coffee. For the price, I couldn't ask for more. I stopped here for one night during a long road trip. It's a perfect halfway point for my trips to visit family, so I'll be back.

The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the shower had hot water. Finding the place after 7 p.m. was confusing, though. Maps said it was behind Hardee's, but the Hardee's sign was off and you couldn't tell where it was or where to drive in. It would have been clearer to say it was in the Comfort Inn parking lot. Breakfast was cereal, two kinds, and milk from the fridge that looked like it had been there a while, which felt a little sketchy. One coffee was ice cold and the other was hot and fresh, but there was no way to tell which was which.

I had an emergency at home and needed to leave after just one night. When I checked in, I told the attendant, who said it would be fine and that he needed to talk to the manager in the morning. The manager didn't answer my call or Priceline's call, and I never got my money back. The rooms are dated, and the furniture is in rough shape. The chair was threadbare and didn't feel very clean. The old-style bed has metal underskirts that squeak whenever you lie down or get up. Breakfast was bad, even for a basic included continental breakfast. If price is your only concern, this motel might work. It's near Chattanooga, but otherwise I didn't find it pleasant.

We ended up staying here by chance while traveling, and the room was clean, even with hardwood floors. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly. I've seen the negative reviews, so I was surprised. We'll stay here on our way home.
