The air conditioner failed on my third night. Around 10:00, the room was over 80 degrees, and turning the unit to its lowest setting made no difference. The front desk offered a fan, but I asked for a room with working AC. They said the hotel was full, which seemed doubtful after I'd spent the evening hearing no one in the halls. Fortunately, it was a cool night, and an open window brought the temperature down to 76 so I could sleep. The supervisor told me the next morning that the AC was out throughout the building. It was working again when I returned that evening. Getting into the building was another hassle. The card reader by stairwell 3 often took five to ten swipes, and stopped working completely on night three, though I'd reported the problem the night before. It was repaired on the fourth evening. I also had to let the hot water run for at least five minutes before showering each morning. And when I left my key card in the room on the third evening, the desk clerk made me a replacement after I gave her the room number. She hadn't seen me come in, since I used a remote entrance. When I asked why she hadn't checked my ID, she said, “you knew your room number.” She seemed genuinely puzzled when I pointed out that anyone could get a key that way. Avoid this place!
The hallways were about 100 degrees, with no AC. There was no housekeeping on weekends, and our friends had bed bugs and had to leave. We had no towels for showers, the TV didn't work, and neither did the dishwasher. Breakfast was plastic, there was no pool, and not one machine in the gym worked properly. The laundry room seemed nice until our machine broke, so we couldn't wash our clothes. At least the shower had only a little mold, so trying not to breathe it in wasn't too bad. The whole experience was horrible. See you guys next year.
The rooms were spacious and clean when I arrived, and housekeeping wasn't too bad. Still, tell them exactly what you need, since they sometimes miss even the basics. One housekeeper came in without knocking, so use the door latch. The website gives a misleading impression, and the place could really use renovations. The heat worked great in winter, but the AC was inconsistent in summer.
The location was quiet, breakfast was fine, and the room was bigger than I expected. But the room had poorly patched drywall, a water-stained ceiling, other marks on the walls, and a badly dented fridge. The firm bed felt cheap, nothing like a Wyndham bed, and the TVs were old, cheap CRTs. There were screaming children on my floor even after 10 PM, and the water pressure was poor. I'm using a tethered connection to write this because the Wi-Fi is unusable. I could've paid less for a motel if this was the experience I wanted. This really dilutes the Wyndham brand in my mind.
After we came back for the day, our room smelled like cigarettes. The free breakfast was the best part, though it wasn't very good. This place badly needs a renovation and definitely isn't worth staying at. It's not a Hawthorn Suites hotel. They dropped the affiliation for obvious reasons.
