TRU by Hilton Chesapeake, VA

The location was decent, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I checked in late and found a two-bed room where one bed had clearly been slept in, with the sheets messed up. The front desk lady was very nice, but said they were full and had no other rooms, so I was basically stuck with it. The room smelled terrible, too. Then the smoke alarm went off at 2am. I was told my situation would be passed to management in the morning, but nobody followed up or showed concern, or offered compensation for a half-dirty room I paid over $100 for.

The hotel was very clean, and both ladies I saw at the desk were nice. You may smell marijuana now and then, but it wasn’t often. The coffee maker and microwave were missing from the room, though you can get free coffee in the lobby any time, day or night. Breakfast was so-so, but not bad. It was an acceptable stay and I’d come back, though I prefer another Hilton brand because Tru only gives half the usual points.

The room was great as usual, and the ladies at the front were pleasant enough. They don’t offer full service, though, and if you’re staying more than a week I think you need fresh bedding.

We’ve really enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back here. There’s plenty to do close by, about 1-2 miles away by car for food and shopping, and you can walk across the street to some shops. Staff were happy to make suggestions, and there’s even a wall full of places to go. Downstairs in the lobby, they have games and a pool table. You can also log into your own accounts and watch on the big TVs. We came to Chesapeake for a quick family getaway with our 12 year old and 17 year old. We arrived before check-in, and the room wasn’t ready, but we said we’d go get lunch. They checked us in quickly and were so friendly. After we’d been shopping at a small nearby shopping center and came back two hours later, the room was ready. We’d been given two king rooms, then got a call saying they could put the kids in a queen room so they wouldn’t have to share a king bed. We were really grateful, and so were the kids. The rooms were very clean and had all the necessities, including a little mini fridge. There was no microwave, but we didn’t need one. The beds were very comfortable, though the pillows were a bit too soft for me. The staff were great throughout.
