**Updated to 2 stars on June 13, 2016.** I enjoyed my stay, but I still haven't received a receipt. I've asked five times by voicemail, email, and text for it to be sent over. I need it for a business expense report, so I've lowered my rating from four stars to two. The Beadle was a great find for a road warrior like me, who usually stays in chain hotels Monday through Thursday. I was visiting an account off 53rd in Hyde Park, searched for lodging instead of hotels, and was glad I did. It was easily $100 less per night than the chains. I arrived late for the 2 to 5 p.m. check-in window, called at 4:30, and they left a lockbox with instructions. Very accommodating. My second-floor Junior One BR (JOB) apartment had a lovely etched glass door, maybe a nod to Frank Lloyd Wright, who once lived in the neighborhood. It felt cozy and inviting, almost like staying in a friend's apartment. The open kitchen and living area had hardwood floors and rustic furnishings, plus a jetted tub and comfy bed. The kitchen was excellent for cooking, with utensils, pots, pans, glasses, a dishwasher and soap. Having an ensuite washer and dryer meant I got laundry done before I got home, and they even supplied Bounty Free dryer sheets. They were short on detergent and coffee creamer, but fixed that after one call. The neighborhood is lively, with great food, shopping, and outdoor recreation just steps away. I didn't miss having only one small flat-screen TV in the living room. I don't mind that daily maid service isn't included, and you can request room service if you want it. The bathroom counter space is limited, but there's tons of storage behind the mirrored vanity. The simple decor could have used a couple of area rugs to make the different parts of the apartment more inviting, though the floors are lovely and clearly cared for.

I really loved my time here and came to think of it as my Chicago home away from home. I had to be in the city while a sick relative went through treatment at the U of Chicago hospital, and The Beadle suited my not-too-fussy needs. My furnished two-bedroom, two-bath apartment had a full kitchen and stacked washer and dryer. When the medical situation kept extending my stay, The Beadle worked with me to make it more affordable. We stayed in two different units and saw others, including some fancier ones. Ours were comfortable and had a few quirks, but any big issue I raised was fixed quickly. The on-site manager was incredibly kind and helpful, doing thoughtful things for us well beyond what she had to do. This is an apartment building with some units set aside for short-term stays, not a fancy hotel chain with daily cleaning and lots of amenities. It's in a fairly quiet, tree-lined neighborhood, with shops, groceries, restaurants, coffee shops, a bank, a park, and the University all reachable on foot or by bike. There's off-street parking. An express bus gets downtown in about 20 minutes and costs $2.25 for an adult; the Metra train is another option, though pricier, and I didn't try it. Lake Michigan is about 10 blocks away, with walking and biking along the lakefront. There is no elevator, and our units were on the top, third floor, which made moving in and out a little difficult.

We came for a graduation, and the full kitchen plus washer and dryer were fantastic for our family of six. The place was clean and newly renovated, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We felt right at home and will be back.

Clean place, peaceful neighborhood, and the neighbors were really friendly and helpful. Good food and shopping are within walking distance, and it was a nine-minute Uber ride to McCormick. We'll be back.

The food was great, the rooms were amazing, and the beds were super comfy. I'll definitely come back.
