Karla was very nice and seemed to run the whole place. We barely saw any other staff, which helped keep the mansion quiet and pleasant. The suite was comfortable, with a relaxing amount of space and some thoughtful touches: chocolates, sparkling water, good cardstock for notes, plus a pressed robe and slippers in the bathroom. Breakfast was good too, with fruit, eggs, sausage, French toast, and a nice range of teas. The mansion is tucked away near Wintrust Arena. I'd love to come back in summer.

The Wheeler is a beautiful building to look at, but my one-night stay over Thanksgiving 2025 felt subpar and cost way too much. I felt like an afterthought. Breakfast had no choices, the coffee machine was broken, and the suite package I'd ordered didn't include the promised snacks or room amenities. I've tried contacting the Wheeler three separate times about these problems and have never heard back. I wouldn't recommend it. Don't make the same mistake I did.

The hotel feels like stepping back in time, and all the little details made it feel luxurious. I found this beautiful place after everywhere else was sold out for a trade show at McCormick place. From the front door, McCormick place is visible just to the right, about .3 miles away, and Soldier Field is right there too. Karla was super friendly. I'd happily stay again for another trade show and highly recommend it.

We rang the bell several times for more information, but nobody answered. Earlier, we'd asked a woman on staff about a tour while she was escorting another tour out. She was frosty and told us to schedule online. When we asked for a brochure, she went inside and never came back with one. We couldn't find the tour online either.

At first, check-in surprised me. Thinking about it afterward, though, it was a good kind of surprise. It doesn't feel like a typical hotel, more like staying in a home.
