Safari Inn - Chico

The room was dingy and dirty, and I was upset by its condition. The fridge and drawer interiors were dirty, the bathroom floor felt oily underfoot, and the sheets and blankets were worn and stained. The sink was cracked from end to end and leaked onto the floor. There was also a strange wall cutout with a metal piece full of small holes, which I covered with a hand towel. The air-conditioner cord had been spliced to a completely different plug cord, which looked dangerous. There were disturbing situations and noises from other guests outside during the night, too. Check-in was another hassle: my Booking.com reservation hadn't appeared in their system, and they said it might take 45 minutes, so I had to find the reservation number myself and give it to the desk. Nobody mentioned WiFi or a password when handing over the key. I paid the security deposit in cash but got no receipt or other proof, even after asking, so I had nothing to show when trying to get it back the next morning. The online rate was pretty good, but for this room it still felt like too much.

Both rooms were filthy, run-down, and felt unsafe. The first had stains everywhere and a window stuck wide open that couldn't be closed or latched. I asked to switch, but the second was just as bad, with dried vomit all over it and clothes someone had left behind.

The room was in rough shape, and there was blood on one towel. At least the bed was clean and it stayed quiet apart from kids next door, who settled down once it got late. It was alright.

It works if you're on a budget, but bring flip-flops. I wouldn't walk around barefoot.
