The location and views are good, the beds were comfortable, breakfast was pretty good, and we liked the pool and fire pit area with propane grills. The room itself was decent and generally clean. But we saw several roaches, including one in a cabinet with a bug trap alongside the dishes. At 4 a.m. my daughter spotted one on the wall beside her bed. A neighbor upstairs complained rudely that her iPad was too loud, so this didn’t feel very family-friendly. Then the microwave stopped while my daughter was making food, and the second microwave, TV, and lights also went out, except for the bathroom light and the light by the bed. The room phone didn’t work, and nobody picked up when I called the desk six times on my own phone. I wasn’t happy with the customer service or with having so much broken equipment and no one available to fix it. I’ve lived nearby before and visit the shore several times a year, so I’m disappointed.

I’ve come here every June for years, but this year things felt completely different, apparently after a change of ownership. Breakfast was really poor, just scrambled eggs and potatoes, with everything else costing extra. There wasn’t a waffle maker or fresh juice machine, and none of the ice machines worked. No one seemed keen to repair the broken patio table by the pool. The new owners have made a rough start.

We booked three rooms for our extended family, and the bill came to $30 more per room per night than the hotels.com reservation showed. The promised hot breakfast buffet turned out to be only wrapped pastries, and even those weren’t complimentary. Ishan the manager didn’t sort out any of the problems and told us to call hotels.com. Our rooms had hot water for only about two minutes at a time. TVs didn’t work, and one room also had no working lights. The front desk staff were kind and seemed afraid of their manager. One of them did find a lamp in an empty room and bring it over, though the other issues were never fixed. There was also a jagged piece of metal sticking out of a broken bedframe. My husband bumped it getting into bed and was lucky not to get hurt. I regret the stay.

The view wasn’t great, and breakfast wasn’t free even though that’s what the reservation said. The room was small but nice enough. What put me off was being charged $15 more than the confirmed price. When I asked, the desk could only guess it might be a parking or destination fee. I won’t return after being overcharged, especially with plenty of other good choices on the island.
