The room itself was okay, nothing special, but the beds and pillows were awful. One bed in our two-bedroom room was decent. The other sagged in the middle like a hammock, felt rock hard, and made a sound like broken styrofoam whenever I moved. The pillows were thin, hard square slabs of misery. We arrived late in the evening, after the staffed check-in ended at 10:00 pm, which we hadn’t known about. When I called the after-hours number, the woman who checked us in had a very poor attitude and was passive aggressive.

The evening desk clerk was lovely and explained that toast and fruit would be available from 7:30 to 9:30 AM. The rooms were clean, but had no counter space. Three windows faced two parking areas, and with guests coming in, we kept checking for gaps to make sure we had privacy. That promised breakfast was what drew us here, but at 7:50 there were only six slices of bread, no fruit, and a few oatmeal packets. I hung around for coffee and a chat, but by 9:00 nothing else had appeared. The cleaner was in the lobby briefly, and someone was at the front desk for about five minutes. We got less than we paid for, apart from the nice evening clerk. At check-in, they stressed that we’d be charged $50 for each actual key if we didn’t return it. Yet at checkout, there was just an open box on the counter and no one making sure the key wouldn’t be stolen. That system feels archaic, and the place seems understaffed if the desk clerk also has to clean rooms.

The place was filthy. There was black mold, a peeling shower ceiling, a beer can and used pepperoni wrapper behind the nightstand, dog hair everywhere, and a stained mattress. The old pillows felt like dead weights. The office told me the owners hadn’t replaced them in years. Towels were tattered, and things outside were broken and dirty. The heater banged, and the office said they all do that. They wouldn’t move me to another room for the second night. Breakfast was nothing, and the office is unstaffed from 11:30 to 3:30. Crazy. Do not stay here!

For the price I paid through Expedia, the service was about what I expected. The room was clean and fairly comfortable, and the stay was okay overall. I was there three nights and got no maid service. There was no coffee or even cups in the room, so I was glad I brought my mug. Snacks are a stretch to call breakfast, and ice was only available from the clerk, whose limited hours made it hard to get any. At check-in, the clerk said I’d be charged $50 if I didn’t return the key. But when I checked out, there was no clerk, just an unsecured basket to drop it in. Not cool.

The service was terrible, and we won’t be staying here again. I went to the front desk to ask for a hairdryer, which you have to request there, then waited almost 20 minutes for someone to show up. She said all the dryers were lent out. At $175 a night, you’d think the owner could provide enough for the rooms. When I asked how many they had, she didn’t know, and told me, “If you don’t like it, you can leave a bad review.” Great customer service. When we finally got into bed and pulled back the sheets, there was an earwig on the pillow. The bathroom also seemed to have mold. It had a tilted toilet and missing shower caulking. This place is horrible. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re staying anywhere in claallum. They clearly aren’t looking for report customers. Good luck with your search, just don’t make it here.
