An hour after check-in, I was charged a $400 fee because the smoking sensor went off while I and my two children were getting ready for a concert. Staff repeatedly insisted only smoke could trigger it, and accused me of smoking or using a candle. But a representative from Highgate, the company that owns the hotel, told me hair-dryers can and have set off the sensors before. Highgate is working on reversing the charge. The hotel couldn’t remove the fee and sent me to a useless customer service line. They’re quick to charge and accuse you, but apparently don’t know how to get the charge reversed. Beware if you need the room to get ready for an event and plan to use a hair dryer. I guess dry your hair in the car with the windows down, or stay somewhere else if you want to do regular human things in your room.

I stayed here for a few days and had no significant problems. The staff were respectful and the room was clean. My only real complaint was the Wi-Fi. I couldn’t use it on my computer, which made getting work done a bit difficult. Aside from that, the stay was fine.

The room was clean, but that’s the one positive I can give. We’d reserved a king, but were first given a room with two queens. Sorting it out meant another 30-minute wait in line, and the woman argued with us before eventually giving us the correct room. On our last morning, there was no coffee. Those little things can make or break a stay, and I won’t be back.

We were charged a $500 cleaning fee for smoking before we’d even checked in. Once we got into the room, we noticed a clear bag around the smoke detector but thought nothing of it. Now we know why they charged us. They say we put the bag there, even though staff saw us go outside to smoke cigarettes several times. The lady at the front desk seemed to decide the hotel could make a little extra cash. I have to wait until Monday to call the manager. Booo! Not very nice, and we don’t smoke inside our own place. I go outside, thank you.
