The staff turned a very stressful travel situation around for us. We’d had to leave another hotel, and arriving at the Hilton Garden Inn in Clinton felt like a relief. Everyone we met was friendly, professional, and ready to help. I didn’t catch all their names, but Destini at the front desk was wonderful, as was another front desk associate who helped us throughout the stay. A woman helping with housekeeping stood out, too. She seemed to be a manager, but said modestly that she was just filling in wherever needed. People here seemed willing to pitch in to make guests comfortable. On our first evening, we arrived at the restaurant just as the kitchen was getting ready to close. The bartender spoke with the kitchen staff, and they stayed open long enough to make us dinner instead of sending us elsewhere after a long day. That small kindness meant a lot. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Most of all, the team’s care and professionalism restored our confidence in Hilton and reminded us why we keep choosing the brand when we travel. Thank you to everyone at Hilton Garden Inn Clinton for making us feel welcome.

The bathroom floor is filthy, and the balled-up dirty washcloth that’s been in the cubby under the sink since Sunday was still there when I complained on Thursday. I check out tomorrow. My room didn’t look clean when I arrived, and complaining didn’t get it cleaned. The garbage was changed once after I raised the issue, but the room hasn’t been cleaned or restocked all week. I’ve had to go to the desk for towels and tissue. This hotel’s nastiness has seriously affected my trip. I’m disgusted and disappointed.

The room was nice and very well priced, and I enjoyed the salmon. It was my first Garden Inn, so the built-in restaurant and bar were interesting, and the place had a bit of a social hangout feel. The pool, high-end workout facility, and classic, spacious common area all added to a good experience.

After a long day of travel, Joel at the front desk was a lovely person to greet us. He made check-in friendly and easy, and we appreciated the beautiful room. If we’re back in town for a conference, we know where we’ll stay.

We’ve stayed here several times a year for at least four years, and the condition seems to get worse each visit. This last one was really disappointing. We booked four nights, December 27-31, for $750 with the AA discount. We checked in after 10 pm on Saturday and found the room door open because the lock wouldn’t let it close. I didn’t want to enter an unlocked room with my children, so I called the desk. Someone came up quickly, checked that it was safe, and I appreciated the response. Then we spotted a cockroach crawling around. We put our bags on the tables, took a photo, and I went down for bug spray. It barely slowed the roach as it went from the bathroom to the foyer, closet, and back again. I ran out of Clorox wipes and nearly used all my Microban. I asked for a vacuum, and when the desk brought it up, the roach had finally stopped moving and the employee picked it up. I vacuumed and kept cleaning. The hotel was sold out, and the Westin felt too far away at that point, so I stayed and cleaned. I’m loyal to this hotel because it’s convenient for me. The hall bathroom had an empty tissue roller and a half-full trash can of used tissue. The toilet water seemed to refill with a yellowish tint. Both sofas and the desk chair were filthy and stained, so I asked for sheets to cover them. The sheets stayed there for the whole visit. The coffee maker had old coffee stains, the corners by the bar and sink had trash, and I found hair in bathroom areas. The shower door was gray with soap scum, so I sprayed it with Clorox clean up. The walls, doors, TVs, mirrors, and windows were dirty, too. At least the bed linens were clean. I had both kids sleep with me, though my son usually uses the sofa bed. When I finally lay down, I saw three pieces of tape on the ceiling with a handprint in the middle. My nine-year-old daughter noticed it the next night. The one working elevator gets very dirty over the weekend and doesn’t seem to be cleaned until Monday. I’ve seen that on earlier stays, even when it’s dry outside. On Sunday morning, the seasoned breakfast lady was rude and made up her own rules. I do want to recognize Tia and Mr. Charles in the breakfast area, China in housekeeping, and Felicia and DaSheila at the front desk. They’re usually nice and accommodating, and the hotel is usually clean, though there have been a few minor issues on other visits. Once I clean things to my satisfaction, I feel more comfortable, but the hotel needs replacements and remodeling. Right now it feels like an indoor Motel 6 with Hilton’s name on the front.
