We were a group of four adults and three kids under 10. My group of two adults and two kids, ages 8 and 9, had little to no riding experience. The trail narrows in places and can be steep on the way down, but the horses are trained and know their job. Stay seated, listen to your guide, and let the horses do their thing, and you should be fine. Our guide was wonderful. I think her name was Hailey. She answered everyone’s questions, helped both groups take a picture at the top of our one-hour ride, and patiently listened to our talkative 8-year-old. Everyone we met was great and polite. The horses seemed healthy and well behaved. We rode Cody, Cheyenne, and Brody. A few things to know: payment is cash only. It’s $40 per rider for an hour, $75 for two hours, $100 for four hours, or $150 for a full day with lunch. Tips for the guide are expected, about like tipping a restaurant server. You can’t bring purses or bags on the ride, but pommel bags are available for phones and car keys. Wear pants and closed-toe shoes, with jeans and boots strongly recommended. You don’t need a reservation. Drive out, park, then go to the porch to pay and sign the waiver.

The mountain trail can get pretty steep, even for me, but the horses are quiet and follow along easily. Bob, the owner, was a pleasure to talk with and shared so many stories about his time at the ranch. That made my first mountain ride memorable. Conrad, our guide, made it fun too, and I’d happily ride here again. I had a phenomenal time and can’t wait to come back next year.

The folks running the business are super friendly. We did the one-hour ride, which was plenty for someone like me who doesn’t ride often. These horses know what they’re doing, and it’s a very different feel from a flat trail. Just be ready for the height.

Such a beautiful way to enjoy the Cody scenery, whether you’ve ridden before or not. It’s $40 cash per person, and kids ride free. Our horses, Carter and Diamond, were incredibly tame and attentive to their riders. Wendell, our wrangler, was genuine and shared lots about the area.
