Red Roof Inn Winchester, VA

The second room was clean, smelled normal, and had no bugs, so it worked for a few hours of sleep when we were in a pinch. Getting there was rough, though. We stopped on a road trip with our dog because we couldn’t find another place that would take pets. There was trash piled outside, and the first room smelled of cigarettes, had a dirty floor, roaches, and a mattress with suspicious rusty-looking specks. We switched rooms right away. The walls were thin enough that we heard the neighbor snoring. They said breakfast was available, but we didn’t try it. It was coffee, orange juice, and yogurt. This RRI scarred us, and I wouldn’t stay again.

The suite was clean and really nice, and the place felt safe. I thought I’d booked through Expedia, but something had gone wrong. The staff sorted it out easily and offered us the same suite with our two pets at a better rate. They were super friendly and helpful.

We use this Red Roof when we go back and forth, and both stays this week worked out. The rooms were clean and everything functioned, though we did see a few bugs. It seems like they’ve made some improvements since reviews from last year. The front desk lady has always been pleasant, and the coffee is good. We stayed in rooms 142 and 116.

The noise went on all night, with people talking along the walkway and heavy heels moving around in the room above. I was already exhausted when I stopped late at night with my two kids and dog, and hadn’t checked the reviews. Then my son spotted a roach on the wall, and there was a big fly in the bathroom. Around midnight a man knocked. My dog barked, and when I said he had the wrong room, he asked, “You sure?” He stayed outside for several minutes, making me very uncomfortable, until I yelled that I’d call the police if he didn’t leave. Staying there left me more tired than if I’d kept driving. I wouldn’t return.
