The coffee shop in the lobby, with its view over the lake, is lovely. It opens at 7 a.m., though when I arrived there was a sign saying the staff would be back soon, and I waited about five minutes. They were friendly enough, but not especially service oriented. The front desk staff were so-so too. They weren’t very helpful, especially when they didn’t mention there was an elevator near my room. I hauled three bags to the main elevator, then walked a long way from the 7th floor room, passing another elevator that could have been pointed out at check-in. The hotel is in a lovely spot overlooking Lake Kittamaqundi. Posters in the lobby and restaurant show bands that played at Merriweather Post Pavilion, which was interesting to look through. I was told they shuttle concertgoers over, about a five-minute ride, and that would be useful after a late show if you don’t want to drive home. The rooms are pleasant and seem somewhat clean. I stay in hotels every week as a flight attendant, so I always bring Clorox wipes because you never know.

After flight delays, I got in late, and my colleagues had asked the kitchen to order me food ahead of time. They made me one of the best burgers I’ve had, close to 11 p.m. I got to eat, have a cold beer, and watch the rest of the college football championship, just what I needed after traveling all the way from California. Brett and Brenden deserve special mention for preparing the meal and following through on every detail. I stay at a lot of Marriott properties, and they’re among the most dedicated employees I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Well done all around.

We live locally and ate dinner at Lak last weekend during the hard rock event, so I can’t comment on the rooms. It was very busy, and the service wasn’t good. My steak salad was supposed to have blue cheese according to the waiter, but came with feta. Another waiter recommended it, and I didn’t check the ingredients or notice the $32 price. The margaritas were $20 as well, so we probably won’t return. It’s nice to look out over the lake or go for a walk, and parking was free and not too far away. The architecture is nice, and the place seems clean.

Kareem turned a rough start into a stay we really enjoyed. My mother and I came to the Merriweather for a few days and arrived just after something had happened in the hotel parking garage. I don’t know what it was, but we already felt uneasy. We were told we’d been upgraded, yet the room smelled strangely of food, and the air conditioner kept making noise and wouldn’t turn off. Before we could do anything, someone knocked. Kareem apologized for the room and quickly moved us to a much better location, and gave us breakfast vouchers. We enjoyed the rest of our visit, took lovely walks by the lake, and liked the crab eggs Benedict so much we had it twice. We’ll absolutely return to the Merriweather, and appreciate the service we received.

Everyone was raving about the food at our reception in the Merriweather Lakehouse Room. It was delicious, and the service was top notch. The waitstaff passed appetizers, the bartenders were great, and staff brought out extra chairs at a moment’s notice. The room also has beautiful lake views.
