Midway Budget Inn

I've stayed here plenty of times over the years, and the staff are much more relaxed, friendly, and approachable now. A lot of the sketchy people who used to hang around don't seem to be here anymore. They'll work with you if you're short on room payment or fall behind. Most guests now stay for longer periods, which gives the place more of a family-friendly feel. I'm not sure if they've always done this, but fireworks go off around the location every weekend.

After nine hours on the road dealing with traffic, we needed somewhere to sleep, and the friendly staff and clean front desk were the one real highlight. The office was spotless and smelled nice, and the area was quiet. But the hall to our room reeked of marijuana, and although the rooms were marked non-smoking, that rule clearly wasn't enforced. The carpet needs work, and one pillow had some very questionable stains. The room itself didn't really smell, so we stayed. For the price, we would have been better off with the Best Western a couple more hours up the road in KC or the Super 8 an hour back the other way. I absolutely wouldn't stay here again.

The whole building smelled like dog urine, and there was a dog barking. It was very noisy, with the entrance door slamming at all hours. My ground-floor window had no curtains. The first room they gave me was dirty, so I got moved to another one.

The shower faucet was falling apart, and the shower head was only about chest height on me, at 5'4". The water pressure was dismal, too. The bed was clean and comfortable, but the carpet badly needs cleaning or replacing.
