New Rome Motel

Awful stay. The room was messy and the front desk people were rude. I asked for cleaning every day, but the cleaner still didn’t come on three of the five days.

I can’t speak to the price since my friend paid. The customer service was polite and they tried to respond quickly, though maintenance seemed slow and the building showed its age in a few ways. The rooms are nice, and the cleanliness was surprisingly thorough for a motel. In my experience they often just do a surface clean, but here there wasn’t even dust on top of the mirror or picture frames.

We paid $80 and would’ve been better off sleeping in the car. We’d barely been in the room half an hour before we were coughing and uncomfortable. It smelled musty, the walls and surfaces were filthy, the carpet was gross, and the box spring cover was torn and dirty. The pillows were thin, the toilet barely flushed, and the sheets and blanket had cigarette burns. Several flies kept landing on my face all night. I woke up with puffy eyes and a heavy chest after a restless night, and the dust alone made me feel sick. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was mold somewhere. The man at the desk seemed drunk, though he said the smell was mouthwash, not alcohol, and he wasn’t helpful. He said we couldn’t get a refund. We considered sleeping in the car or paying for another room, but ended up fully dressed on top of the sheet and didn’t bring our bags inside. I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt and hate leaving negative reviews, but I completely regret this last-minute stay.

Such a quiet spot, you can sleep in peace. I accidentally left my $800 watch in the room, and they mailed it all the way back to Arizona at no charge. I’ve never had that kind of hospitality before.
