Ornate Victorian Home w/ Courtyard & Fire Pit!

I was heartbroken when, right before we were supposed to sign contracts, Mamie told us she might sell the property. She said she could take my money, then maybe keep it and maybe not. I’d first contacted her in January 2025 while looking at wedding venues, and I fell in love with the location. She assured me our preferred date, Halloween 2026, was locked in, but said she couldn’t officially book us until about a year and a half beforehand. We were fine with that and planned to pay in full when we signed. I’d tried reaching her several times and got disregarded, then after this news she stopped answering my texts altogether. We were blindsided and continued our search. I wouldn’t work with her after being left feeling that she might pull the rug out from under clients, lie to them, and ignore them.

The inn is an easy walk to downtown, the river, and the historic neighborhood, and the beds and sheets are wonderful. I’ve just returned for another stay. Columbus, Georgia has a rich architectural history, and The Rothchild Pound House is a charming way to experience it. Built in 1886, it has recently been restored for a second time by owner Mamie Pound. She fixed electrical and plumbing problems that had made earlier visits less pleasant. The doors now lock, the water is hot, and the showers have good pressure. Her attention to detail keeps the original Victorian architecture and furnishings while making the place comfortable. It’s hard to imagine choosing somewhere else for a taste of historic Victorian Columbus and present-day southern hospitality.

The best part might be the invitations to sit out on the porch or, when the weather cooperates, in the lovely courtyard, sharing drinks and conversation with some of Columbus’ most interesting artists, writers and musicians. This downtown hidden gem is a gorgeous old building, full of history, with rooms to suit different needs. Uptown restaurants and the Riverwalk are just steps away.

I love the garden and wraparound porch, and the rooms are comfortable. It’s a 100 year old house, so expect a little quirkiness, though everything looks beautiful. I’ve stayed twice and loved it both times. The hospitality was excellent, and I’d definitely come back.
