Meyer Hotel

The little deck off our Creek side room was perfect for watching a storm roll in. Our pup also had a cute adventure pack waiting, which made him feel special and made his day. The room was really comfortable, and the bed was so good I didn’t want to get up. We enjoyed the relaxing pool area for a while before the weather turned. We’ll be back, and I definitely recommend staying here in Comfort!

So peaceful and beautiful here. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, and the staff were friendly. I loved sitting on the back porch. It felt secluded even though it’s right in town, and the location was perfect. We’ll come back often!

The quiet grounds were a highlight, with a creek nearby, mature trees, firewood piles, swings, and plenty of room for walks or just sitting outside. There are porches, patios and gazebos, plus a large pool with loungers and a gazebo. The historic building has rustic Americana furnishings and photos in the shared areas, which we really enjoyed. We spent two midweek nights as a birthday treat for me in the GAST HOUSE, a large, two-story farmhouse-style building. It has two upstairs guest rooms, and my companion and I were the only guests in the building. Our room was clean, with a double bed, shower but no tub, refrigerator and microwave. The bed was okay, but the pillows were too soft to support my head, neck and shoulders, so I’ll bring my own next time. There was no staff on site during our visit. Check-in was electronic, and we got a door code. No food or bar service was available; maybe that’s offered on weekends when there are more guests. Most restaurants in town aren’t open all week, though there’s a pizza place on the corner and a coffee house nearby. That wasn’t a big issue for us since we spent our days in Fredericksburg and Hye Wine Country, ate out there, and brought food back as needed. Another historic hotel in town had a daily breakfast buffet, just a short drive or walk from MEYER. We couldn’t figure out the TV, which seemed to require a ROKU subscription during our stay, so we skipped it and used Bluetooth and SPOTIFY for music.

Comfort has the old-fashioned feel of a place built back in the 1800s, and the quiet walks behind the Meyer are lovely. It’s serene, with some decent spots to hang out and eat close by. If you need a few days away from city noise and want to hear nature instead of relying on your phone, this is a good place to disconnect. My stay was no-contact. The room was ready, they texted me, and I went straight in without an office visit or paperwork. The amenities can be a bit pricey, but I thought they were worth it. My room felt spacious and homey, and the guesthouse had a beautiful clawfoot tub that worked well. Bring your own bath stuff if you enjoy a soak. My only small complaints: my partner found a huge cockroach in the bathroom and ran out screaming. But we were surrounded by nature, so I can’t say I expected otherwise. There was also a little noise from upstairs in the three-room guesthouse. Other rooms are standalone if you want to avoid that, though they cost more. Definitely worth it for a quiet couple of days. I’ll be back.
