Days Inn Concord

One of the two beds didn’t even have sheets when we arrived Friday night. The bathrooms were in terrible shape, like something from the 1950s. I’d paid $119 with the AAA discount for Friday, but nobody told me Saturday would cost $189. It was Columbus Day weekend, but that second-night rate was still outrageous. When I mentioned it, the front desk employee said they could have charged me $240, as if I should feel good about paying $189. I’ll choose a better-rated hotel next time. This one only deserves two stars. Don’t stay here.

The property is old, out on the edge of town, and overpriced for what you get. It might have been tolerable if we hadn’t had a safety problem. The front desk said a large group staying there were traveling scam artists and had already caused three issues, one involving Concord Police. We saw them speeding around the lot, and two men followed us in the dark toward our room. The owner had reportedly known about their behavior all week and did nothing. The desk told me my complaint was the fourth incident that week, with no action from management. I should have trusted my gut and stayed elsewhere. It was memorable, but for all the wrong reasons.

We were a group of guys from a race team, and we’re not hard to please, but we all left hoping we hadn’t picked up bed bugs. The rooms were badly outdated, and the carpet looked like it hadn’t been changed since the 1970s. That may have been where the smell came from, so keep your shoes on. In my room, it smelled like urine covered with bad perfume. The front of the AC unit was falling off, and we woke up congested, which made us think there might be mold in the air. One of our guys had to share with two others, so they brought a cot, but its frame was broken and he slept on the mattress on the floor. The free WiFi didn’t work either. I’d avoid this place if possible.

The front desk welcome was nice. I arrived in a chatty mood and the woman there was warm and happy to talk. The room was more spacious than most and comfortable enough for the price. Finding the exit is straightforward, too: New Hampshire doesn’t put signs on the Interstate for roadside lodging and fast food, but the sign for this Day's Inn is easy to see from I-89, so there’s no need to slam on the brakes to make the ramp. The breakfast room is a bit of a walk across the parking lot. That’s fine on a mild morning, but could be a problem in winter.
