We booked two weeks ahead, then got a call from the hotel just two hours before check-in saying we needed to bring a $500 cash deposit. They said it was to stop locals from trying to stay there. We called Choice, and they thankfully found us a room somewhere else. Quality Inn needs to tell guests about this charge much earlier than two hours before check-in.

Breakfast was very lacking. Housekeeping also doesn’t freshen or straighten the room for stays longer than a day. When I asked the housekeeper cleaning next door to leave fresh towels, she said she doesn’t do that, and that I had to take my dirty ones to the front desk to exchange them. The front desk called the police on a guest and her husband. While I was checking in, staff watched the security monitors and thought someone might be urinating outside. They started swearing and asking who the man on the monitor was with, without regard for those of us waiting in line.

The room smelled terrible, and the heat still hadn’t warmed it by 7 AM after I turned it on when I arrived at 3 AM. The window shades wouldn’t close, so it was very bright even at that hour. I left at 7:10 AM and didn’t return for my second night. I tried calling the front desk and contacting Expedia to cancel, but got no answer. I asked for a refund and they declined. The picture I took shows how bright it was at 3:30 in the morning.

We found a cockroach on the counter as soon as we walked in, and another just outside the breakfast area. They called the place newly “renovated,” but that seemed to mean carpet and paint laid over old materials. The front desk had mistakenly booked us a smoking room. I showed the confirmation email for a non-smoking room, and he still argued, though he eventually gave us a non-smoking room.
