Comfort Inn Conover-Hickory

The beds were comfortable, the shower had good water pressure, and breakfast was very basic. But we’d reserved two connecting rooms a week ahead and they didn’t have them for us when we arrived. The set they gave us had a broken air conditioner, no towels, and a used condom on the floor. They took $20 off the rooms for their mistake. After all that, I feel they should have comped them.

The room had been remodeled, though there was some wear and tear, and it wasn’t in need of repairs. The beds and sheets were good quality, and our room was clean. For the price, I was very pleased. I’ve stayed in some $500-a-night hotels that were worse. My friends regretted saving a few dollars at the hotel across the way. None of them liked their hotel except those of us who paid a little more for a better room. Breakfast alone made the difference in cost worthwhile to me. There was bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, and potatoes on the hot line, plus a waffle maker with plain or strawberry batter. They also had yogurt, pastries, fresh fruit, and other things.

The blanket over the sheet had a strong, nasty armpit smell. That’s disgusting and unacceptable. They need to wash the blankets and comforters with the sheets instead of spraying them with a stinky deodorizer that doesn’t help. It felt unsanitary and just wrong. The place needs serious upgrades and was very dingy, with a strong citrus odor in the halls and rooms. The middle window curtain was broken at the top, the lampshades were sliced and missing the nuts that hold them in place, and the lamp outlets were too loose to charge our phones. The TV didn’t work properly, the tub wouldn’t drain during a shower, and the fairly new-looking mirror was falling apart. We’d never stay there again.

The room and hotel were really nice for the price. My only complaint is that the TV channel guide didn’t work in either of the different rooms I stayed in, a week apart. I had to change channels and check the screen to see what was on. It was nice that the TV could mirror my phone.
