Avalon Walnut Creek

The parking situation has been awful. Residents with several cars, sometimes without permits, take up spots, leaving paying tenants like us to park blocks away on the street. Staff tell people to call parking enforcement, but the city can’t enter the garage without Avalon’s permission. The gate in our section is also left unlocked overnight while other sections are secured, and there have been burglaries. Packages are now kept in Amazon lockers after thefts led Amazon to disable them. Trash chutes clog every day and the trash rooms are filthy. There are rats throughout the property, and I’ve filed complaints with the city and county health departments. The lobby alarm beeps for hours almost every weekend and never gets fixed. The Latch app still doesn’t work. They said it would be fixed Friday, but nobody came. We arrived to find broken appliances. The dishwasher had to be replaced. The refrigerator they said was pre-tested and cold was smaller than our old one, warm, and had a broken ice maker, so we had to buy a separate ice machine ourselves. We also went three weeks without internet because management misrepresented the issue, then made us switch providers for no reason. The leasing office is large but almost never open. It’s appointment only, and getting a slot is nearly impossible. Management uses that setup to stay unavailable. Even the police station in the same building has said Avalon management here is a disaster to deal with. Staff, including Frankie and the female manager, have repeatedly lied to us about parking, storage units, internet, and repairs. Since day one, this has been unacceptable for a company of Avalon’s size. They advertise luxury living, but we’ve experienced dishonest management, unsafe conditions, rodents, broken systems, and no accountability. Future renters, don’t waste your money here.

Sharice Cotton has such a bright, welcoming presence in the office. She’s kind and genuinely helpful, and from the moment you arrive, she makes you feel noticed and cared for. Her positive attitude and hospitality make her a joy to interact with. Thank you, Sharice, for all you do. I appreciate it more than I can say.

Being right by the Iron Horse Trail was one of my favorite things about living at Avalon Walnut Creek Phase 2. It’s also next to Pleasant Hill BART, near the sheriff’s office, and close to gyms, restaurants, and bars. I felt the area was very safe. The apartments were well soundproofed, and I never had noise problems. We used the recycling program, which seemed to work well. The clubhouse, rooftop, work lounge, and dog spa were great, too. I lived there for two and a half years, first in a Signature Style apartment for 18 months, then in an Upgrade Style unit for a year. They had the same size and layout, with different cabinets and appliances. Signature Style rent is noticeably higher, so I’d choose Upgrade instead. The leasing staff were efficient and helpful, and they responded quickly to requests submitted through the app. Cleaning and maintenance requests also went through the app and were usually handled promptly. They followed up well on more complicated issues. With so many apartments, though, the maintenance team seemed a bit short staffed, and cleaning especially could use more people. Latch made getting around the complex convenient. I never had trouble with it, and it was easy to send entry codes to guests. Just keep your phone charged or remember your door codes. Our one bedroom came with one basement parking space at no extra cost, which was enough for our one car. Extra spaces can be rented in the complex. Street parking for visitors is usually available nearby on weekdays for a few hours, but check the signs. The BART lot next door is another option. Check its hours and fees, since it’s free on weekends. There are two pools, a larger one in Phase 1 and a smaller one in Phase 2. Both were generally clean and looked after. The apartments have good sound insulation, and I never had noise issues during my stay. My time at Avalon Walnut Creek was a five star experience, and we made some great memories there. I’d just encourage them to hire more people for cleaning and maintenance. Thanks! 😃

The rooftop was a favorite, especially for watching the sunset, and the apartment had a roomy, convenient layout with lots of storage. BART was only a minute away on foot, which made commuting easy. It was hard to leave after two years. The complex stayed very clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly and responsive, and the maintenance crew was great. Problems we reported were taken care of in under a day. The appliances were high quality, and we never had trouble with the dishwasher or washer and dryer. The pools were clean, and the clubhouses were modern and nice. The staff were thoughtful, too. They’d sometimes arrange free Starbucks breakfasts or drinks when the fire alarm was being tested.
