Hampton Inn Cookeville

The staff member Sam saved the day when I realized I had left my laptop charger behind. He offered his fast USB-C phone charger so my laptop would have enough power to get me through the next day. Really above and beyond. I was there for five business nights, and as someone who's stayed in many Hampton Inns, I think this was my first without a microwave in the room. The fridge had no temperature control and sat just above freezing, the TV remote's mute button didn't work, and the window had only a full shade, so there was no light curtain to soften the sunlight in early November. There wasn't even a bar of hand soap by the sink, so I had to reach into the shower for the body wash. The trash cans were ridiculously small. If there's a corner to cut, this hotel seems to cut it. Breakfast was passable and lobby coffee was good. On the plus side, the AC/Heat worked well and the shower was strong. They also had flat-topped trash cans for setting things down while waiting for the elevator or filling up with ice nearby, a nice detail. The elevator was the fastest I've used in this kind of hotel. Sam really came through.

Traffic noise made this a poor spot for a quiet night's sleep, though restaurants were close by. Breakfast was fine and the room was clean. First, the digital key opened the guest laundry instead of my room, even though the lobby attendant knew there was an issue. Why allow a digital key for the room if they knew? I was given a regular key. When I tried to lower the shade, it was in bad shape, wouldn't come down, and fell off completely. I had to go back to the lobby a second time for a new room and key.

It was easy to sleep here. The rooms were quiet, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was the standard hotel kind. The shower water only got lukewarm.

Sam W. at the front desk is a SUPERSTAR for Hilton Corporation. He brought the qualities the job calls for and made our stay feel so welcoming, which was a real plus after a tiring trip. What a GREAT person with integrity. Thank you, I'll definitely stay here again.
