I’d read last year’s reviews and decided it was worth giving this place a try. Heather let me use the big freezer for my fish at no charge, and after a long, hot shower I spotted dall sheep from the balcony with my binoculars. I also watched salmon swimming downstream and bears along the shore, where she suggested I go look. The room was spotless, the bed comfortable, and the location is great value. I booked directly by phone instead of paying a third-party site.

The manager wouldn’t consider a refund for the lack of hot water, even after several calls, emails, and complaints. I was told it was the first time this had happened, but then I found earlier reviews reporting the same problem, so that didn’t seem truthful. The thermostat was locked at 62 degrees, towels were stained, and we ran out of toilet paper with no spare roll. There was a broken door chain and a floorboard with an unfinished crack. On top of that, chairs kept scraping loudly in the room above.

When I checked in, Heather, the owner/manager, told me the motel had ended its contract with a booking agency the day before. I had booked and confirmed well in advance through that agency, but was then told I had to pay the motel’s current rate as well, which would effectively double the cost of my stay. That sudden extra charge felt unjust and put an unfair burden on me. There had been no clear communication between the motel and the agency, and I felt I was treated unfairly. I expect transparency and for confirmed reservations to be honored. I wrote to the Better Business Bureau because I believe the motel’s business practices should be investigated. I also sent several handwritten letters, weekly for a number of weeks, and included correspondence with the agency to explain what had happened. I urge future guests to be cautious until the communication and accountability issues are addressed.

The staff were kind, which was the one good part. The room itself was in poor condition, with dirty sheets and a dirty floor, and there wasn’t even hot water in the bathroom. That made for a very disappointing stay.

The room we were shown was cramped and unpleasant, nothing like the “apartment” or “quaint” description. The “host” misrepresented it and pressured us to take it. Once we realized it wasn’t adequate for us, she refused to refund the fee. To me, that was theft. She tried to say I had the wrong place, but my card shows a charge from the Alpine Inn. Very interesting. Stay away from the Alpine Inn. Reviews here and on TripAdvisor make it clear my family wasn’t the only one caught up in what I see as a scam.
