The staff made for a pleasant stay. We had a small room issue at check-in, and the front desk employee took care of it right away. The next morning, Katina served us breakfast and was funny and very personable. That evening, we needed to print some documents, but the printer wouldn’t connect to Wi-Fi. Dierdre, who may have been the manager, kindly offered to print them for us. I highly recommend this hotel.
The sticky desk and nightstands were the only reason I didn’t give five stars. I suspect they used the wrong cleaner and it damaged the synthetic wood, but either way, they felt gross. Otherwise, the location was near the office where I work, the area felt safe, and I could always find a parking spot close to the building. Katina really is hospitality personified. She greeted me like a friend every morning, and breakfast was delicious. I especially liked the made-to-order omelets. I’m looking forward to staying here again soon.
My room was great when I visited Sunday night, February 22, and the bartender with bangs was attentive and very good at her job. The drinks were great, too. But the cook with braids kept walking past and looking at me in a way that felt aggressive. She made me feel unwelcome, like she didn’t want me there, and it ruined the atmosphere. I won’t return to this location.
It’s a good location and the price was reasonable, but we were disappointed by our two-night stay last weekend and won’t be back. The shower door was missing a seal, so the bathroom floor flooded each time. Maintenance had no replacement, and even after our first request we had to make another trip to the desk for more towels and a mat. The fridge was set to freeze everything. I could have checked before putting food in, but staff should reset it during turnover. The king bed’s mattress cover and fitted sheet were both too small. The bathroom light flickered, and it took two trips to the desk before anyone addressed it. There’s also a recurring leak near the main-floor elevator. They put out a fan and wet-floor sign each day instead of fixing it permanently. The lobby coffee station garbage stayed full for hours on both days. We raised the most urgent problems with the desk, and some eventually got handled, but the response to my post-stay feedback felt placating. I expect more from Hilton Garden Inn, and I’m left wondering whether these problems are common across the brand or just at this location.
We were in Memphis for a Stay & Play tournament with the Olympic Development Program (ODP), and team requirements limited our hotel choices. At nearly $150 a night before taxes, this was ironically the most expensive option. We paid about $534 total, and the stay was completely unacceptable. If you’re traveling for ODP, avoid this hotel. Complain until you can stay in Germantown, preferably at the Hyatt Place. It’s in a better area and looks well maintained. The whole Wolfchase area felt rough, and the food options were terrible. The only decent meal we had was at Moon Dance in Germantown. Hilton should be embarrassed to have its name on this place. Never again. The hotel was filthy. On the first night we found a huge bug in the room, not a small one. We showed it to a staff member at the desk, who said she’d let the manager know so they could speak with us. No one came. We were told the hotel was sold out and couldn’t switch rooms, and the manager never contacted us. We ended up killing the bug ourselves. The power went out for hours the next day. Staff said it was a power outage, even though the restaurants on the corner had electricity the whole time. The elevator smelled like an electrical fire, made odd noises, and felt unsafe. The staff were repeatedly unfriendly and unhelpful. When we asked for food recommendations, the front desk staff seemed uninterested or unwilling to talk. One man with lots of piercings had a really bad attitude. Staff were eating at the front desk when we arrived, and a woman with finger waves nearly choked on her food while greeting us. Completely unprofessional. Housekeeping was a joke, too. There were four of us, but we got fewer towels, then were told none were available when we asked for more. We waited hours for them. Room 410 was disgusting. The beds were uncomfortable and itchy, dust was everywhere, and the hallway window by our room was so dirty you could barely see through the layers of white grime. The common areas looked neglected, too. The plants were dead and covered in mold. Oddly enough, the friendliest person we met was the man with tattoos on his neck, the only staff member who didn’t make us feel like an inconvenience. This place is a dump. If you have no money and absolutely no other options, stay home. You’ll regret staying here.
