Residence Inn Corona Riverside

The location was handy for freeways, shopping, and gas, with plenty of parking and friendly staff. But the room wasn't clean. I wiped almost every surface with Clorox and sprayed everything with Lysol. The sofa bed's bedding bag in the closet smelled terrible, and when we pulled out the bed, the mattress was flat and FILTHY. The pillows smelled moldy, and there was food mashed into the carpet in several places. The walls were so thin we heard EVERYTHING from both rooms next to us. The bathroom fan wasn't very effective either, so we had to leave the door open when it wasn't in use to keep the room from smelling musty.

The room had a weird furnace about a foot from the foot of the bed. It was extremely LOUD, waking us roughly every 45 minutes all night. It was bad enough that we considered complaining or even driving home in the middle of the night. The place is rundown, and I don't see how it's rated four stars. Trust me, drive an extra 30 minutes for a better hotel.

The front desk staff showed little professionalism or hospitality during our January 30-January 31 stay at the Residence Inn Corona Riverside. There wasn't even a simple hello or goodbye, and it was frustrating to get any recognition of my Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite membership. No one acknowledged my status or thanked me for being loyal, and no basic perk like bottled water was offered. I had to negotiate for a 1 p.m. late checkout, even though a 2 p.m. checkout is supposed to be among Gold Elite benefits and is easily offered at most Marriott properties. There was no room upgrade either. Compared with other Residence Inn and Marriott hotels that make elite members feel valued, this stay fell short of what I expect from Marriott. I won't return to this location.

There was noise from the freeway, and people started playing on the basketball court next to our room at 8:30 p.m., so it wasn't an ideal stay. At least the front desk woman working that evening was extremely pleasant and welcomed us back when we returned from dinner. When we opened the bed, though, there were holes in the sheets. I was on crutches after surgery, but they said no accessible rooms were available. A young man in training checked us in, then got what we thought was a manager to explain that all the rooms were suites with queen beds and pull-out beds. We said that would be fine. During check-in I told the young man I'd been cooped up at home and needed to get out after surgery. He said he understood, but then put us almost at the far end of the second-floor hallway, about four rooms from the end. Seriously, did nobody listen when I said I'd just had surgery? My husband called down for blankets for the pull-out bed. Half an hour later there were still none. When he called again, the woman apologized and said the message hadn't been passed along, then brought them right up. At check-in there was no thank-you for being a BonVoy member, which surprised me because the last place we stayed gave us a little bag of treats and thanked us whenever they saw us. At checkout, all they asked was whether we were checking out and if we wanted the bill emailed. No thanks for staying, no asking how it went, nothing. That young man in training needs a lot more training. If this is how they treat me, how do they treat other Bonvoy members? I don't think I'd stay here again. Very disappointing. I expected much more from Marriott.
