After a 10-hour drive, I just needed a basic, clean, quiet place to sleep. Instead, the room at Quality Inn & Suites Council Bluffs - Omaha East was so disgusting and felt so unsafe that I slept in my car. I arrived around 1:00 a.m. and was told I’d been “upgraded” to a two-bedroom room, though I hadn’t asked for one. The building smelled awful, thick and musty, with urine, tobacco, and cannabis odors throughout. The room was clearly not clean or non-smoking. The floor was sticky, it reeked of cigarettes and weed, and there were brown smears on the walls and lampshades. The lamps were crooked, curtains broken, and the beds looked like blankets had just been tossed over wrinkled sheets. In the bathroom, it was obvious no proper cleaning had been done. It smelled terrible, and there was black mold in the bathtub. With the smoke, sticky floors, dirty walls, bedding, and mold, this room should not have been rented to anyone. I called the manager before even putting my bags down. He came in, looked at the bathroom, said there were no other rooms, and left. He didn’t apologize, offer help, or try to fix anything. I immediately contacted Priceline to request a refund because I wasn’t staying there. The hotel then wouldn’t answer Priceline’s calls, so I’ve been left fighting with Priceline and my credit card company to get the charge removed. I paid for a non-smoking room and got a filthy, smoke-filled, moldy room that felt unsanitary and unsafe. After driving all day, I chose my car instead. This was one of my worst hotel experiences, and I strongly recommend avoiding the property.

We found a cockroach in the bathroom, then later, while we were lying in bed, I felt little feet scurry across my leg under the covers. We jumped up and found mouse droppings in the bed as we searched for whatever had crawled on me. The hallways also smelled moldy when we walked back from check-in, which had gone fine. I tried to tough it out because it was a budget place and could have been worse, but we couldn’t stay comfortably. We’d booked one night because we had a flight to catch. When we raised the issue at checkout around 9pm, the front desk wouldn’t take responsibility and didn’t seem to care. We booked through expedia, and the hotel refused to work with them. Expedia wouldn’t do anything either. One star only because I can’t give zero. Do not stay here unless you want mice crawling on you and roaches in the room.

The one thing that went well was that the manager fixed our television quickly. There aren’t any smart TVs, though. The towels were brown, we saw roaches, and the visible part of the window looked out over a dumping ground. One half of the building smelled of pet urine and weed. The place is sketchy and doesn’t feel safe. It’s in front of the projects, and half or more of the hotel seemed to have full-time tenants. I’m no saint, but there were drug addicts and unsavory characters around. For $125.00 a night, I wouldn’t recommend it or stay again. I don’t like posting complaints or hurting anyone’s business, but I have to be honest.

The bed was comfortable and the shower got hot, but we had a long list of problems. There was no toilet paper when we arrived, and the room smelled like smoke. The lighting was poor, the bathroom had only two towels, and its fan didn’t work. The outlet outside the bathroom was sticking out and its cover wasn’t properly installed. The phone was in a drawer with no cord to the wall, and the room had just one small trash can, in the bathroom. You also couldn’t take a bath because there was no plug, and the bathroom sink had low water pressure. We were there for two nights. After a three-hour drive, we only had time to change for our event, so we didn’t notice everything until we got back later. We decided to stay rather than leave. At night we could hear people coming and going, talking, and kids screaming in the hall. We’d planned to use the pool, but with bad weather expected both nights, we didn’t want to deal with getting our five-year-old out of it. We left a list of things that needed attention at the front desk. It was close to Omaha for our events and to family in CB, but the parking lot seemed questionable, so we parked in front of our room. Honestly, I don’t think we’ll return.

The website photos gave a completely misleading impression. The room was in bad shape: damp-feeling carpet, an air freshener hanging from a wall picture, an air conditioner propped on wood planks, and what looked like toilet paper packed into the bathroom fan. The sheets and pillowcases were stained too. We stayed the night because we had no other option and couldn’t afford to pay for another room, especially with prices way up for the college world series. I won’t stay here again, and I’ll make sure others know.
