SureStay Plus by Best Western Covington

The price was high for the level of service, and the owner didn't seem to care when I reported that there was no hot water. I stayed for two nights, and the ice machine didn't work either. Breakfast was listed, but it wasn't edible to me: just white bread, stale cereal, coffee, and a muffin that didn't look appealing. I'd recommend walking to a nearby restaurant for breakfast. There was plenty more I could say.

The best part of this last-minute stay was Shane?, the young man at the desk. He was really friendly and pleasant, though the morning staff weren't as welcoming as the night crew. The rooms have been updated a little and have no carpet, but they still weren't great. The mattresses were uncomfortable, and there was mold in the bathroom. Breakfast was pretty pitiful: the coffee tasted like water, there was cereal but no milk, and the yogurt, eggs, and sausage seemed spoiled. A bowl of fruit and packaged pastries would be better. I didn't expect much for the price, but a clean room and decent coffee are basic.

For $89 a night, we expected at least a clean room, and the bathroom was dirty. There was mold on the shower walls and curtain, plus grime behind the toilet and in the corners. A large jagged piece of glass was also outside by our parking spot. Breakfast was disappointing, with cold egg and sausage patties. The sandwich instructions said to add cheese, but there wasn't any. The yogurt machine barely dispensed a drop with each button press. I told the front desk, and he said he'd fix it, but it still wasn't working the next day. My daughter and I stayed four nights at the Sure Stay of Best Western in Covington, La. We've paid much less elsewhere and had much cleaner rooms.

The photos online made this place look decent, but arriving near midnight with our child, we found a motel that felt like it was rented by the hour. It was shocking, especially since we were in town for a soccer tournament. The front looked updated, but around the corner it was a different story. I didn't even want to put my things down in the room. It smelled like smoke had soaked into the walls after decades of chain smoking. The website photos are deceptive, and I don't understand the nightly price for a motel like this. The manager or guy working seemed familiar with complaints and offered a “nicer” room above check-in. There were only two: one had shoes scattered outside as if someone lived there, and the other looked like it might have spy cameras in the outlets and mirrors. By 1am we had to search for somewhere else, with our child needing to get up early and rooms sold out all over because of the tournament. Please check the reviews and pictures first. I hope it saves someone the nightmare we went through.
