We arrived Sunday, May 31, 2026, after driving for hours from Orlando, Florida. I had booked and paid through Expedia. The lobby clerk found the reservation, but while I went to the restroom my husband started paying a $98 charge. I stopped him and showed the clerk my Expedia receipt. He said the card on file had been declined twice, though the card had enough money and Expedia had processed the payment. Instead of sorting it out, he kept telling us, "See the manager tomorrow," as though that were the only answer. I called Expedia even though I was exhausted and just wanted a shower and bed. Their representative told him to look at my itinerary and receipt, but he insisted on an email sent directly to the hotel and a copy of a virtual credit card. I showed him both transactions on my bank statement, the Expedia payment and the one he'd just processed, but he kept me waiting for more proof. It took an hour to get to our room. We travel for work constantly, stay in hotels up to four times a month besides vacations, and I always book through Expedia. Staff at other hotels can see the payment in the booking details. This clerk was arrogant and acted like we didn't know how to book a room. Later, I realized he'd asked my husband for his phone number because we're members of the chain. Our membership had a canceled card linked to it. Despite being told several times that Expedia had been paid, he made three attempts to charge the membership card. I still can't understand why he did that. Even if he hadn't checked the booking and tried to charge the member card, he should have asked whether it was active or had enough funds.
