Pittsburgh Marriott North

The rooms were clean and so updated they almost seemed new, and the staff were great. The lounge was nice, as was the restaurant and bar, though I only used the lounge, a typical Marriott Platinum perk. Think about where you park, though. The lot near the room tower has very little light at night. It didn’t bother me, but I wouldn’t want the women in my life walking from there after dark. Parking by the lobby is better lit, but then it’s a long walk to the room elevators, and your room might be even farther.

Coffee was the one letdown for me. The Starbucks in the lobby wasn’t an option at 5 AM, so I used the in-room maker. They had several kinds of tea, but the coffee wasn’t very good. A Keurig-style machine would help, or you could bring your own single-serve maker like I’ve done plenty of times. The room itself was clean and roomy, with a nice work station and a king-size bed. The lobby smells lovely, presumably from some kind of scent being piped in. It’s quite a walk from there to the elevators, so keep that in mind if you have lots of bags. Service was friendly and helpful. I’d stay here again and recommend it.

Jay made us feel welcome and was very helpful. The room was clean, though I could hear the people next door through the thin walls. An espresso machine in the room would have been a nice addition. We had a pleasant stay.

The only real letdown was dinner downstairs on Thanksgiving evening. Illness caused last-minute changes to our plans, so we ate at the hotel. The staff were nice, but the food was bland and lukewarm, and seemed like leftovers from an earlier meal. That wasn’t Marriott-level service. Otherwise, the facilities were beautiful and thoughtfully appointed. The welcoming staff and environmental service team were pleasant, responsive, and clearly committed to helping guests.
