La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Dallas Love Field

For $125 a night at the last minute after my flight was canceled, I was happy with this stay. The hotel could use updates and repairs, but it was clean. I checked for bedbugs and found none. The staff were super friendly, and I'd stay again. Breakfast was standard: eggs, sausage patties, bagels, bread, cereal, waffles, juice, coffee, yogurt, and probably something else I missed. I didn't notice a musty smell, though I did smell the Lord's lettuce. The airport transport isn't daily or consistent, so plan ahead.

We found the place very clean, with friendly and helpful staff and a comfortable bed with a choice of pillows. It's convenient for downtown and old town, without the high price, parking fees, or paying for breakfast at the swanky downtown places. We saw some poor reviews, but none of those complaints matched what we experienced. Some people are just never happy.

I had no personal problems with the staff. They were all nice, and housekeeping was nice too. But there were several issues I'd kept to myself because they seemed minor. The whole hotel smelled like sewage, not dirty mop water, and I brought my own plug-in just so I could tolerate breathing there. The AC smelled bad when switched on. Breakfast was bad too, with watery eggs and hardly any choices. In my second room, #107, the tub was dirty, paint was peeling, and the fridge didn't get cold, so my little bit of food wasn't edible the next morning. The AC in that room smelled bad as well. I stayed here with my dog for a few weeks because of a personal situation. The stay was fine and staff were nice until I had to check out and rebook due to an unexpected problem. I booked again for three nights, then at check-in was refused because they said my pet had damaged the room. He's a husky mix, and I'm sure they meant hair on the carpet. I tried to help with that because I know he sheds, but this is a pet-friendly hotel, so I expected pet hair. They refused to refund the three nights, leaving me out $300. If I'd been told this when I said I might come back, I wouldn't have booked again. They told me the pet hair was damage they “can't fix.” Maybe the $300 you took from me could go toward better cleaning supplies. I'll call corporate in the morning. Also, the side door key worked inconsistently. I was repeatedly told to keep it away from car keys, phones, and debit cards, and I did, but it still failed. I had to go all the way around through the front and down the hall, even though the key worked perfectly at my room. This wasn't just happening to me. I saw other people leave a rock in the door to get back in. I went through about 16 keys because they kept failing.

The stay could have been more comfortable with some basic maintenance. There was a slight musty smell when we entered, one of our two rooms had an AC unit that wasn't working properly, and the restroom had a loose toilet seat and a shower faucet needing attention. The pillows felt worn, and part of the flooring was missing. We know it's not a new hotel, but it needs some upkeep.
