Residence Inn by Marriott Dallas at The Canyon

The rooms and staff usually aren’t bad, and I’ve stayed at Residence Inn all over the US. After a long travel day, I chose my preferred Marriott chain hotel, but this stay was different. I was too tired to shower when I arrived and fell asleep. When I got up the next morning, there was no water at all in the shower. It’s been two weeks, and I still haven’t received my points or any additional points for the inconvenience.

The breakfast was as good as you’d expect, and the service was fantastic. The rooms here at the canyon are amazing, and you can walk to restaurants right in the same parking lot, including Buffalo wild wings, olive garden, and a Starbucks. I travel all across the United States and have stayed at almost every Hilton or Marriot they have, mostly the 3 star offerings. I keep finding myself going back to either residence inn or home 2 suites.

The constant Tom Landry Freeway noise is the biggest problem here. You can hear it in your room 24x7, and the common areas and pool are hard to enjoy with that noise. I’ve stayed at other hotels by highways, including a Hilton along this same highway, and they had at least some soundproofing. This building seems to have none. It feels cheaply built, and I doubt anything can be done about it. That said, this is a newer property in pretty good shape, with tasteful, well-laid-out rooms and a pleasant pool that wasn’t gross like others at this price. The staff were especially friendly and helpful. The location may not work for everyone, but it’s easy to reach from the Tom Landry Freeway, and the parking lot is decent sized. The neighborhood is poor: the two nearby restaurants were both pretty bad, and there’s nothing else within walking distance. Olive Garden is okay with children or elderly parents, but otherwise not much fun. Buffalo Wild Wings smelled so strongly of garbage that I left before sitting down. Starbucks is there, at least. I was charged for parking at checkout, but staff corrected it. I don’t think anyone meant to cheat me; it seems like people rarely stay here without a car, and I understand why. Breakfast was lackluster too. All four days, it was the same wet eggs, sad chicken sausage discs, Jimmy Dean microwave sandwiches, oatmeal, and a little fruit. Not awful, just could be much better.

EV chargers make this five stars for me. The location is awesome and the rooms are very clean, though the bathroom faucets barely trickle.
