The staff were the best part of our birthday weekend at the Statler. Michele at the front desk lent us her own bottle opener, and Skyler took great care of us and made sure our food delivery arrived. We also had the best Kentucky Mule I’ve ever tasted at the rooftop bar, where the lounge and pool have great vibes. The view is good, but the atmosphere is even better. The bed was so comfortable we melted into it. The bathroom is huge, with a great rain shower, and the tub was one reason we picked this hotel. The drain sits in an odd spot, right in the middle, but it’s still great for soaking if that doesn’t bother you. We had a lovely, laid back weekend for my wife’s birthday.
I had a disappointing stay for the price and would look at Tru, Hilton Spark, or Embassy Suites for better accommodations. The rooms ending in 32 or 33 are especially small and weren’t part of the recent renovations. Opening a 28 inch suitcase may be difficult there. They do have appealing corner views through large panoramic windows. Rooms numbered 02-12 and 24-32 on even floors have obstructed views, so choose another room if scenery matters. The mattresses are soft and sink in, and the pillows are extremely plush, which won’t suit everyone. There were fruit flies in the speakeasy. I dealt with two myself and saw a third flying around. When I asked, a staff member said the problem had persisted despite using traps and cleaning drains. The so called sports bar is mostly a bar with pool tables, cornhole, and a two lane bowling alley. It was clearly understaffed: one bartender took food and drink orders, delivered food to the restaurant, and retrieved it because there was no runner or bar back.
The service has been top notch, and I love the people here. Every drink was a 10 out of 10; the bartenders know their stuff, especially if you’re a lightweight drinker. I tried food at all the places and it was good. It’s a great laid back spot for an anniversary. The gym is clean and up to date. The upstairs bar has a great vibe, though it could use a few upgrades. Still very nice, night and day.
Mr. Christian Mercedes was the standout. He spoke with us in the hallway, carried our bags to the room, and when he learned I was there for a medical appointment, sent up fruit and extra bottles of water. The next morning he checked in and asked how everything was. He was a pleasant young man. Most of the staff were friendly, and the front desk was pleasant and professional. I stayed with my daughter because I had an early appointment at the Baylor. The hotel was clean, though a little rundown. Valet staff were talking and didn’t offer my daughter help, and the restaurant staff seemed rushed at one point and overly relaxed, sitting and laughing later in the evening. My daughter ordered food. Overall, it was a good stay.
Three problems took three stars off our stay, and even though we still enjoyed the night, we won’t be back. We were celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday on 12/27/25. Five minutes after entering the room, a roach appeared on the bed, and I had to deal with it. The mini fridge didn’t work, so we lost the $200 dinner we couldn’t finish at kitchen & kocktails. Breakfast was included in my reservation, but I left hungry. I usually go downstairs for coffee and ask to have food delivered while my partner stays in the room. The hostess said I could order at the bar and give them the room details. I told the person taking the order that we needed it brought to our room, and they nodded, so I assumed that was fine. Room service also confirmed they only needed the restaurant to pass the order along. But our food sat there all morning while we waited. The restaurant manager refunded the food to my account, but the hotel had charged me for breakfast before arrival, so I doubt that charge will be refunded. The manager said he’d talk with the hostess about telling guests the restaurant can’t guarantee delivery because it’s separate from hotel room service. Better communication between the two departments seems like the real need. The hostess wasn’t solely responsible, either: the kitchen processed the order and tried to charge me even though I’d said it was for room delivery.
