Christine made a big difference to my stay. I booked the most basic room, then asked if there was a quieter part of the hotel. After checking me in, she went above what I expected and moved me to a pool and harbor view. I was meant to stay a week, but left four nights early to surprise my mom for her birthday. Since I'd booked through a third party, I asked Christine about a refund, and she gave me all the details I needed to pursue one. I hope the hotel keeps her and makes her manager when they tear this place down for a bougie boutique hotel. Her service is what you'd expect, but she went far beyond that for me. The rooms are clean, though the furniture is older, and the hallways have a few stains despite being clean. From a room over the pool, sounds carry straight up, especially when kids are down there. For a quieter stay, choose a room away from the pool or shut the patio door. I had to leave mine wide open because California weather in winter was so beautiful. The pool closes with a firm shut off, I think around 10:00 p.m., and it was peaceful after that. You can walk the dog by the boats, head out to dinner, or go to Heritage Park and the other park across the street. Doheny Beach is walkable too, with surfing there. Parking costs per night, though you can ask to have the fee waived. I've been traveling for four months, staying at hotels and Airbnbs, and I've only gotten things by asking. The worst they can say is no. The area felt very safe, and the hotel is pet friendly with a pet fee. Breakfast is free, but free food doesn't mean healthy. I got a great rate, and the hotel is clean with great staff. Would I stay again? Probably not, because I'd pick a different location that's a little more bougie.
