University Park Inn & Suites, an Ascend Collection Hotel

I brought my own bedding and packed up everything I’d brought when leaving. The cleaning lady spoke little English and accused me of taking their bedding. I told the front desk that everything of theirs was still in the room, and nothing was missing, but they kept my deposit and charged $240 to my bankcard. That was more than I even had in my account, leaving it overdrawn, and I also had to pay 100+ to bring the balance back to zero. They didn’t bother to pay attention or properly check the room. It felt like they may have done it on purpose to take what they could.

The room had everything I needed, including a mini fridge with a top freezer slot, microwave, hairdryer, and iron with board. Wifi connected easily, and the TV was easy to use. There are even smart plugs on the main desk outlet. The room was clean, the staff friendly, and the location convenient.

Every train has to ring its bell at the intersection, and the track is only 100 yds from this hotel. It’s actively used, so you hear every single train. Do not rent a room here.

We asked for two second-floor rooms so we could avoid the problems, but were told that wasn’t possible. The ground-floor room at the University Park Inn and Suites had a glass-paneled back door that didn’t secure properly, and someone experiencing homelessness was sleeping in the trunk of their minivan just outside. Around the pool, several men had a large bottle of vodka in plain view, which made the setting inappropriate and unwelcoming for our teenage children. We checked in and then promptly checked out without staying because the room didn’t feel secure and the pool area felt unsafe and uninviting. The conditions were far from the safe, comfortable environment represented when booking. The front desk denied our refund request, and the manager never responded to our emailed complaint and request for a refund.
