Tru by Hilton Deadwood, SD

We spent four nights here in Deadwood and were glad we chose it. We hadn’t realized when booking that it was part of Cadillac Jack’s resort. The room was comfortable and clean, and the employees were friendly. The breakfast space is big, with plenty of room to move around. We brought our small dog and had no problems, though the grassy area for dogs is across the street. Downtown Deadwood is walkable, and there’s a gas station right across from the hotel.

The breakfast was good, the people working there were great, and the location suited my needs perfectly. I also appreciated that the front desk gentleman handled the first room problem professionally and moved me right away. I stayed October 6-9, and the cleanliness issues made the rest of the visit miserable. My first room had hair in the corners, unswept floors, long hairs on the mattress under the sheets, and dead bugs on the floor. The second room had even more bugs. I saw two, then four, and had removed five by the end of that night. After returning from my conference the next day, I found six more. There were bugs throughout the hallway as well, alive and dead. They were on the floors and walls. I’m bald, so the long hairs weren’t mine. I didn’t kill the bugs because I thought they’d give off a foul smell. I picked them up with tissue and flushed them. I couldn’t relax, and I left rather than stay in my room the last night, staying with a friend at another hotel. When I went back to explain, the young woman at the front desk didn’t seem to care. There was no apology or concern. I worked in hospitality for over five years, and I know problems happen, but basic empathy and customer service were missing. If I come back to the area, I probably won’t stay here again. I’ll attach photos.

My room was quiet. There’s a casino on the first floor, and little robots that look like Roombas can bring amenities for a fee. The elevator buttons may confuse you and send you to the third floor.

The room had no frills, but it was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was simple, but it hit the spot, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. One thing to know is that the first floor, where a lobby would normally be, is a casino. Parking costs extra, and you have to pass through the casino to reach the outdoor parking lot.
