Super 8 by Wyndham Decorah

The room was dirty, with smears everywhere, grimy outlets, and an awful remote. It smelled horrible too. They'd left a window open and sprayed a lot of air freshener to cover it, but even with the bathroom fan running the whole time, the odor stayed. The hair dryer wouldn't stay mounted on the wall. I tried telling the front clerk, but he was asleep in his chair. I woke him and explained, and all he said was okay. He didn't even ask which room I was in. Very disappointing.

The room was exceptionally clean, with fresh linens, a spotless bathroom, and a fresh, pleasant smell. The whole place felt calm and relaxing, and guest comfort and cleanliness clearly matter here. Staff were warm and professional when I arrived, and kept making me feel welcome with their friendly, genuine manner and attention to detail. I couldn't have asked for a better stay. I'd happily return and recommend it to anyone after a clean, comfortable stay and great hospitality.

The front desk woman was nice, and the room was relatively clean, but the humidity made the stay extremely uncomfortable. It was 66 degrees in the room, yet I woke up to wet sheets, clothes, and pillowcases. Humidity was 87%. This is unacceptable. Whatever is causing the AC or room to get this humid should be fixable, and it feels like a perfect setup for mold. I'd give it four stars if the humidity problem were fixed.

The dampness was everywhere. Condensation covered the windows and mirrors, anything left on the counters got wet underneath, and the bathroom floor, towels, bath mat, sheets, and even the toilet paper all felt damp. The bath mat was so wet I could probably have wrung a few drops from it. I killed at least a dozen ants crawling on the bathroom walls. Two people traveling with me had similar problems in nearby rooms, and one found debris in the tub and along the walls. Walking in, I was hit with a strong cleaning-product smell. It took hours with the fan on high to ease it somewhat. The place felt like a rustic summer camp cabin. I've stayed at other Super 8 Motels and never had anything close to this level of unpleasantness. I won't stay at this motel again.
