Baymont by Wyndham Deming

Breakfast was the saving grace here: cooked to order, with real eggs, sausage, toast, and potatoes. That A+ meal brought my rating up to three stars. The rest of the place is still being renovated and doesn’t feel ready. The ice maker was unplugged and empty, the ice bucket looked like a dog had chewed an ice cream container, and the bathroom fan howled. Some lobby doors were chained shut, and my breakfast voucher was a post-it note.

The breakfast was a pleasant surprise, with eggs, sausage, potatoes, good coffee and OJ, plus a wonderfully friendly woman working in the breakfast area. The room was spacious and very clean, everything worked, and the lobby looked surprisingly fancy with its big sweeping staircase. Parking was plentiful, and I had no trouble getting a large commercial truck around the lot. Rates were reasonable, and I enjoyed the stay. The hotel has had several name changes, from Grand Motor Inn to OYO and now Baymont by Wyndham, and remodeling appears to be underway. The online photos are out of date, and the Google reviews are mixed. I hope Wyndham does the place justice. I’ll stay here again when I travel through this part of New Mexico.

Plenty of parking, and the location makes it easy to get to both town and the parks. The facility was clean and had a pool. Smoking rooms are available in the back, away from the non-smoking rooms.

I only gave it two stars because there weren’t any bugs. At check-in, kids were running around, and one kept saying his mom was on her way. Once I finally got a room, neither the TV nor the AC worked, so they moved me. The replacement had no desk chair, coffee cups but no pot, and a flickering light I couldn’t use.
