La Quinta Inn Denver Central

The room was turned down each morning, and the complimentary breakfast was a little above average. There wasn’t bacon or eggs, but they had a waffle maker, and the flavored creamer pumps were a nice touch instead of single-serve cups. The pancake House next door is great. For an inexpensive Denver hotel, it was pretty decent and nothing was bad overall. The toilet took some fiddling to flush properly, and there was a strange smell in the room when we arrived that had gone away by the second day. Not a bad choice.

The woman who checked us in was great. She let us arrive early and gave us ideas for things to do nearby. After our daughter got sick on a bed, I called for fresh sheets and a man, I think James, was up on the third floor in five minutes. Great customer service. The room was a good size, but the bathroom was tiny. It worked, though the door made a horrible metal-on-metal noise whenever we turned the knob. Nobody wanted to shower because the curtain was dirty and the tub stained. We all got a good night’s rest and had no other issues, but for what we got, the price felt much too high. Aside from the service, it’s just a place to sleep.

The front desk staff were very nice and understood our complaint perfectly. But the property was a shame. The staircases were closed because the concrete was deteriorating, which seemed dangerous. I couldn’t help wondering what would happen in a fire. The rooms smelled really bad, with dirty carpets and stains everywhere. After seven hours of travel we were exhausted, but once we saw the place, we decided to find somewhere more decent and secure. Be careful, the online pictures don’t show how the hotel looks now. It cost $129 a night. I don’t know whether it would actually pass the city inspection.

We arrived at 5:00 and were told no rooms were ready. We’d requested one king bed but were put in a room with two doubles. The room smelled and the bathroom sink was clogged, though maintenance came and fixed it right away. Nobody offered a discount for the room problems. The next day we moved to a room in better shape, but it still had trash in the cans, items left in the refrigerator, and food on the floor. It clearly hadn’t been vacuumed. Breakfast was poor, and even the toaster didn’t work properly. If you’re a light sleeper, the train horns all night will make you miserable. The rooms need a lot of maintenance. This place sucks.
