La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Dallas South-DeSoto

We checked in on October 10 and the third floor smelled horrible as soon as we got off the elevator. Our first room was no better, so I asked the front desk to move us. The fourth-floor room smelled like an old gym locker room, and the bed was shaped like a taco. I'd never stay here again. Try somewhere else.

The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean, but I won't stay at another Baymont. We booked a suite that didn't feel like the one we expected: the couch was old and sagging, the desk chair was peeling, and the room smelled musty. The key card only worked about half the time, so we had to get it remagnetized. Other guests told us they'd had the same problem. It's not the worst place I've stayed, but it was rough.

The lobby was pleasant, but the rest of the place was a letdown, especially for the price. I booked it because I only needed somewhere to sleep near an event on a quick trip, though I usually stay at Marriott. The booking site's photo showed a brand-new La Quinta, so when I arrived at a different-looking hotel I was lost. I wouldn't have chosen this place based on its actual appearance. The room and furniture looked old and scratched up. The mattresses creaked with every move, and the restroom fixtures should have been replaced years ago. There were rusty hinges, cracked tiles, poorly patched holes in the walls, and a toilet that made enough noise flushing to wake everyone on the floor. There was a strong marijuana smell coming from the ground-floor rooms, too. I won't be back, wouldn't recommend it, and honestly feel I should ask for my money back. The nightly rate wasn't cheap, so I expected better. Smh.

I'm a Platinum rewards member, but I can't use my points at this location. The website says there are no rooms available, so we can't book online, even though plenty of rooms are open. It makes no sense to be a member and still be unable to use the points.
