A Victory Inn and Suites - Detroit

After a tiring 12-hour drive, I arrived late to a room that smelled of smoke despite being marked non-smoking. There were roaches, and the only toiletries were tissue and towels. I asked for a refund for my four-day stay. They agreed to refund three days, but not the first night.

Pretty average overall, though the young man helping me was great and offered an upgrade for a very small extra charge. When I moved the couch to rearrange things, I found dirt and cigarette butts underneath, so the cleaning needs work. For the price, it was still pretty good apart from that.

The hot tub was okay, though it had burn marks, but a lot of the room needed attention. I had to disinfect everything. The microwave and fridge were filthy, the fridge was heavily frosted, and little flies were around. The sheets were being used as blankets, I couldn't tell what had been used for pillows, the lamps were broken, and the left side of the bed was broken. The toilet hadn't been cleaned. It wasn't a bad place, but it could use some care.

The staff were nice, and when I complained about a neighbor blasting music so loudly my bed vibrated for hours one morning, they came right out to handle it. The room had a fridge and microwave, the internet worked, and the cable was decent. The carpet was so filthy that walking to the bathroom barefoot left my feet black. It needed replacing, since no carpet cleaning could fix it. I ended up cleaning the room myself, borrowed a vacuum, cleaned out the fridge, and bought bathroom supplies because it was nasty. I also asked housekeeping not to come in, since they weren't cleaning anyway. I wasn't expecting much for a motel that isn't five-star, but that carpet was beyond dirty.
