Mountain Valley Inn & Suites

The pet rule was another problem: we were told our dog couldn't be left alone in the room, though that policy wasn't listed on the website before booking. They said it was simply policy, not because of a complaint. We pushed back and didn't follow it, but people bringing pets should know. Most staff were good, apart from one front desk worker who was dismissive and unhelpful. It seemed like he worked a lot of the days. We had to move rooms after finding a ceiling leak in the first one. It didn't look new, just badly patched. That 3rd floor room was filthy, in poor shape, and didn't even have hand soap. The 6th floor room was cleaner and in better condition, but the stay was still very poor. Both rooms had ripped, stained bedding and thin blankets. We were told we'd gotten the last extra blanket, so bring your own if you stay, though I wouldn't recommend it. Neither bathtub drained properly. On day one, the carpet had a large, completely soaked wet spot. We asked for help and a different room, but were denied. Staff said maintenance would take a look, but nothing got fixed, and the carpet never dried during our stay. This was a very disappointing stay and not worth the price. I wish we'd spent about $60 more per night at a nearby Hilton. I wouldn't come back. They also offer discounts for positive reviews, so be wary.

After a long day, dealing with three rooms was the last thing we needed. The first room's bathroom was dirty, with towels on the floor and trash still there. When we asked for cleaning, we were told no one was available and asked to take a smaller room since nothing else was open at our price. We agreed, but that room's bathroom door wouldn't close or lock properly. The third room had someone else's hair on the sheets, and the microwave smelled so bad it ruined our food. The blankets were torn or too thin, and I was cold all night. The front desk guy was genuinely sweet and tried to help where he could. The stay was worth the price, but all the hassles made it hard to enjoy.

The location suited the activities we had planned, and the staff were friendly. Having a fridge and microwave was handy too. But this is a very old, outdated hotel that didn't feel clean. There was a strong musty, wet smoke smell in the room. The sheets were heavily stained and torn, with visible animal hair, which left us uncomfortable and worried about cleanliness. We got clean blankets, but they still had stains and tears. The mattress was uncomfortable as well. We only used the room to sleep and didn't spend time there. The convenient location is mainly why I gave it one star.

The staff were welcoming and really helpful, and having Gigis restaurant attached was convenient. Breakfast was great before skiing, and the hot tub felt great afterward. Copper Mountain is only a 15-minute drive away, so I can't complain.
