Dothan National Golf Club and Hotel

I didn’t stay at the hotel, this is about the golf course. The patio was a nice touch, but paying for a round inside a bar that serves as the pro shop was confusing. The carts had no GPS, and it seemed like you could drive anywhere, possibly right across the greens. That hardly mattered, since the greens were completely dead and crunchy, with no water unless it rained. There was no putting line, so you just hit the ball and hoped for the best. Etiquette wasn’t observed either. There were two of us and a foursome ahead, both at the 10th tee, them at the black markers and us at the white. They didn’t let us play through, so we followed them for all nine holes. It seems the bar at Dothan national Golf club and hotel is the main moneymaker, while the course is just there to fill time and gets no money put into it. Eighteen holes on a Friday cost just under $39, about $20 too much for that condition. If you want to golf in Dothan, spend a little more and go somewhere better.

Our room was cold when we arrived, and the unit wasn’t warming it up well. We called the office, and Miles brought us a space heater that worked great. The room is warm now, and the unit is working properly. Thanks to Miles for making sure we were looked after.

The course is in awful shape, and I wouldn’t play this dump even for free. The other reviews must be outdated. The grounds crew has huge egos for people who spend all day playing in the dirt, lol. I could see this place making a top ten list of the worst courses.

The staff were awesome, even with the hotel packed with people fleeing Hurricane Helene. We spoke with the manager when we checked in early, and he was making rooms available to people with pets despite the no-pet policy, just to help them out. He stayed late checking people in and was back early the next morning. The clubhouse food was tasty, and service stayed great even with the crowds. Maintenance quickly fixed a slow drain in our room. The furnishings are quirky and eclectic, and the room was fine, nothing fancy, but the price didn’t pretend it was luxurious. We also had a lot of fun swimming in the indoor heating mineral pool. I’d love to come back and play 18.
