Western Inn and Suites Douglas

Our truck broke down and left us stranded in town overnight. Most places were fully booked, so we worked down the list and chose this one. The gentleman at the front desk was pleasant when we called, and he asked the cleaning staff to get a room ready. It was ready shortly after we arrived. It's not fancy and could use updating, but the room was clean and comfortable, with no bad smells or bugs. I got worried after scrolling through the reviews once we'd booked, but with so few rooms available, we'd made the reservation on impulse. It turned out not to be bad at all. We had no vehicle and were pleasantly surprised to find places to eat and get essentials within a short walk.

Our budget was tight on the road trip from Rockford IL to Douglas Georgia, and we'd stayed at a couple of one star places on the way down based on false reviews. Western Inn and Suites turned out to be a wonderful surprise. We had a great stay from check-in to check-out. Our king size no smoking room was spacious and very clean. Even a standard room has a sitting area with a couch, coffee table, desk, and chair, separated from the bed, tv, and bathroom by a half wall. The hotel has smoking rooms, but we smoke outdoors, so that wasn't an issue. Since all the rooms open to the outside, we could smoke outside. I'd definitely stay again if I came back to Douglas. For what we paid, I couldn't have asked for more. It was better than I expected at that price.

We booked two rooms with queen beds for two nights, but on arrival were told they weren't available and were given one room with two twin beds instead. The manager was nasty and rude when I tried to work out a solution, basically saying it was non refundable and not their problem. We were exhausted, so we tried to rest and hoped the next day would be better. It wasn't. At 3 am there was noise from one side to the other, and in the morning my kids and I woke up with rashes. Good thing we hadn't slept under the cover or touched the pillows. The restroom was incredibly filthy. It was supposed to be a non smoking facility, but you could see deals being done right out front. The place smelled disturbing and was filled with roaches and bedbugs. We had to book the second night somewhere else, after being charged $380. To top it off, some of our belongings were missing. Luckily, I'd listened to my gut and taken my valuable things. They keep deleting my Google review, but I won't stop until more people know. This place should be demolished. Completely disgusting.

Never book online ahead of time here. They add extra fees before you arrive, and even with an online booking the front desk charged me another $55. They claimed the website hadn't included taxes and charges, though every website does, and showed me a paper they'd typed up themselves without letting me read it. The online rate was $44.00 a night, but they charged $67.00 a night. There's no breakfast, and the room was raggedy. Ask for a receipt. They don't tell the truth. Jameson inn in Douglas Georgia is $70 a night, with very nice rooms and breakfast. GO TO JAMESON INN! Don't let them scam you.
