Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Duluth

The rooms were roomy and well cared for. The pool is warm but tiny, with a capacity of 17. Our family of five felt crowded sharing it with four other people. Breakfast offered a good variety, but the fridge holding the milk, yogurt, and similar items was locked. You had to ask the breakfast attendant to fetch each item from the back, which was inconvenient on a very busy Saturday morning and made extra work for the attendant too.

Staff are the highlight here. They’re friendly, greet you as you pass, and seem to care about service. The hotel is in a good, quiet spot in Hermantown, and the digital key was a nice extra. The rooms are updated and nice, though I noticed some black stuff in the shower that might have been mold. I also wish there were somewhere to sit and watch TV besides the bed, but I guess that’s fairly common. Breakfast was decent, though not great, which was about what I expected.

It looks like a nice place, but we got refunds for both rooms before staying. The parking lot was limited, and while we were looking for a space, an angry employee hit my son’s vehicle and then shouted at us to get off his property. There were no signs saying the area where we parked wasn’t part of the hotel lot. Police were notified. Be careful where you park if you stay here.

Colby is what made our family’s stay at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott memorable. He was warm, professional, and patient from the moment we arrived, and kept checking in to see if we were comfortable or needed anything. Traveling with family can be stressful, but he made things feel smooth and pleasant, and treated us like valued guests. They don’t offer valet parking, but I feel like Colby would’ve found a way if I’d asked. That’s how far he went to help throughout our stay. If valet had been available, he’d have earned a $50 tip from me. Marriott is lucky to have him representing the brand. Thanks for taking such good care of our family.
