The Willard Munger Inn

The rooms are older but clean and serviceable, and you can easily get to trails and the zoo. The Inn manager was a hoot and welcomed us and our dogs warmly. I like affordable places off the beaten path, so Wilard Munger Inn suits me perfectly. We stayed in 2024, and I'm catching up on reviews today because we had such a good time. This part of Duluth has a mixed neighborhood and business feel, not too fancy yet, and has benefited a lot from restoration work on the St. Louis River Estuary.

The room was clean and its layout worked well, and the location is good with the zoo across the street. But we were disappointed by nearly everything else. There were lots of little bugs in the room, spiders, mosquitoes, gnats and the like, though not bedbugs, and the space wasn't very handicap friendly. If you need housekeeping, ask ahead, because despite the website saying "daily housekeeping," we didn't get it. Our special payment request was ignored, and they checked us in and charged the card we had asked them not to use before we arrived. There's no 24-hour front desk, and the amenities are seriously lacking. The kitchen-like area was nice, but the fridge handle was coated in a sticky substance that smelled of cleaner. There were no towels or paper towels to wipe it, and we didn't have enough bathroom towels to spare. Service was so poor I'd rate it zero if I could.

We like supporting small businesses, and Willard Munger Inn is a good choice. It's reasonably priced, conveniently close to attractions and restaurants, and the rooms are clean, tidy, and comfortable. The welcoming atmosphere has made us appreciate staying there, and we were able to bring our pets on a previous visit. They're part of our family, so having them with us on vacation matters a lot. We highly recommend William Munger.

I got a room early in the morning to sleep during a road trip, and it had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. It was clean, nicely decorated, and had a good bed.
