The setting is beautiful, the location is great, the cabins have a fun treetop style, and the service was very friendly. But the very old, stained carpet smelled so bad it was noxious. We bought carpet fresh, which helped a lot, though the odor was still there and hard to ignore. The floor itself was very clean. It's too bad, because otherwise I think I would have rated this place highly. We were there late, all the cabins had been rented, and the staff member asked why we hadn't reported the smell. My thought was that it wasn't ready to rent, so why should we have to report it? If you give someone a place that smells that bad, you've lost my confidence in option B. They should invest in new flooring and raise the price a little to cover it. If I can be sure the flooring and odor are taken care of, I'd still come back next time because everything else was great.

We loved being able to go straight from our #7 villa to the hill. There was a small issue with the room, but the front desk lady sorted it out quickly and efficiently. We'll be back.

The views over Duluth are beautiful, and the villas are cozy and affordable. Some are dog-friendly, which is handy. I've stayed at Mountain Villas three times, and each visit has been delightful and different from other stays.

The villas are a little dated, and the floor may slope a bit, but staying here is such a unique, amazing experience. We had lots of space for our family and two bathrooms. The staff were on top of things and amazing. We loved it and will recommend it to others.

Check-in was fast and easy, and the location was unbeatable. Those were about the only positives from my October 8-9 stay in villa 11. The room was filthy: brown stains on the bathroom wall, a dirty toilet, dirty sheets, and a stale smell like no one had cleaned in weeks. There was no guest service after 5 pm, so I slept without pillowcases and sheets after continuing to find hair. I told the staff the next morning, but they offered no compensation or refund and didn't make things right for a possible future visit. I wanted to enjoy the stay, but if you care about clean rooms, this might not be the place. For over $200 a night, it wasn't worth it. The poor hospitality earns one star too. This is what I'd expect from a Motel 6.
