Radisson Hotel Duluth - Harborview

The bed was a little harder than I prefer, but that’s just personal taste, and I’d stay here again. My husband and I liked our room on a recent trip to Duluth. It wasn’t fancy, but it was cozy and clean, with a king bed, microwave, mini fridge, large lighted mirror, and bath/shower. There’s a pool and sauna, though we didn’t get to use them. I’m sorry to hear they’re removing the hot tub.

The price really wasn’t worth it, and I wish I could go back and choose another hotel. The room was tiny, about 10 by 10 feet, and felt lacking for what we paid. The closet overlaps the bathroom door, and the toilet wasn’t great. The “city view” meant a possibly ugly side of town, not the bridge or nicer area. There was obvious water damage painted over in the shower, and the ceiling paint didn’t match the old white. The fridge was a micro mini size, about half a normal hotel fridge, even though this place costs half as much elsewhere. USB ports on one side of the bed were broken, so you couldn’t charge a phone there. The TV sat right in front of a basic canvas print, which looked really bad and, honestly, “white trash.” I grew up poor, so that’s saying something. The towel holder was inside the tub and shower, which made no sense. The sheets were wrinkly and didn’t look freshly made. When we walked into our king-sized “suite,” there were exactly three pillows on the bed. It looked cheap, gross, and pathetic, as if they couldn’t spare two more to make the bed look fuller. I asked the front desk for more, but the person said they couldn’t help because there was no housekeeping. I used to be a housekeeper, so I swear I’m not being petty. The restaurant wasn’t great either. My walleye fillet was small for the price, the vegetables tasted frozen and seared to look fresh, and the coleslaw was all mayo, without vinegar, and seemed like it had sat in the fridge too long. The menu was very limited, and there are better places to try, especially for the price. Save your money and stay somewhere better.

We won’t be back. We extended our UMD tour weekend so my daughter could swim, but the pool was far too cold. The hot tub had been out of service for a year, and I didn’t see anyone use the pool during our four days there. The sink wouldn’t drain, and the room wasn’t very clean overall. WiFi quit working after a few hours, and the TV glitched unless you used channels 2 or 3. Terrible stay.

We chose this hotel for the hot tub, then found it out of order. If we’d known, we would have booked somewhere else. The pool was super cold, and the sauna was just a “hot room” because it had no water bucket for pouring water on the rocks. The staff were very unhelpful, almost as if we were inconveniencing them. My sister asked for another pillow, and they said only housekeeping could get one. There are no cameras, which I find super sketchy. Our city-view room was otherwise fine, but the bathroom had an awkward shape, with the toilet built into the counter, and there was a big crack in the ceiling that looked like something had leaked. The light over the bed didn’t work, and the TV was lame, with only news or sports channels. The rooftop bar was subpar. I got the $30 walleye dinner; the fish was good, but the fillet could have been bigger for that price. The vegetables were frozen and overcooked, and the huge portion of coleslaw tasted like mayo. The bartender was nice, at least. The coffee tasted like water with the essence of coffee beans.
