Econo Lodge Dumas

The owners were friendly and very accommodating. For an Econolodge, this is a really nice, upgraded place. It was my first stay, but I’d come back if I’m in the area again.

Rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable, and the price was great. Breakfast was simple. I was glad to have a blow dryer, though there wasn’t a coffee pot in the room.

We were traveling from Utah to Oklahoma and stopped late at night, glad to find somewhere cheap that served breakfast and was along our route. Check-in was quick, and at first the room looked nice. The beds were clean and decent, and the vending machines had a fair selection, though they were expensive. But there were serious problems: light showed around the door, the deadbolt just spun, and the trim looked like the door had been kicked in before. The door stop didn’t hold the door. The room felt about 35 degrees when we got there, and the toilet seat was coming loose, held on with the wrong clip. The bathtub was full of cleaning powder that we had to remove before showering. At breakfast there was cereal but no milk, apple and orange juice, instant coffee, butter, and yogurt. The front desk attendant kept disappearing when we had questions.

There was no one at the desk when we needed help. The room also didn’t seem to have been cleaned in a while, with bloody boogers on the bathroom wall. The AC hadn’t been switched on, even though we booked ahead, and the room stayed around 90 degrees until midnight, which made sleeping hard. The door wouldn’t lock properly either. Its safety latch was screwed into the trim instead of the wall, and someone had pulled the trim away.
