Holiday Inn Express & Suites Duncan by IHG

I like the hotel, but the oil field guys take up all the parking like it belongs to them. They hang around outside in the evenings drinking beers and can be loud and rude. I really wish Halliburton would stop being so cheap and build quarters for its oil field workers.

After a long day on the road, we arrived and learned our room had been given away because the hotel was overbooked. Nobody warned us ahead of time. Caitlyn at the desk was lovely, and we felt bad that she had to handle the situation all evening. We were left to sort things out ourselves and drove 30 minutes at night, with our luggage, to find another place. We had already planned our stay around this hotel. Management made the overbooking mistake, but took no responsibility, and wasn’t even there once the event ended. If you need a place that will honor your reservation, I’d book elsewhere.

The hotel itself is nice, but management’s lack of care was extremely unprofessional. They overbooked, and we heard several people being turned away despite having reservations. That’s unacceptable, and it wasn’t the fault of the two women at the desk. One of the girls seemed overwhelmed and unsure what she was doing, though she was nice. The other, who I think was Caitlyn, was kind, attentive, and basically running the whole check-in. It didn’t look like they had enough support. On a busy weekend, management should be there to keep things moving and help staff succeed, not leave them to deal with this alone.

The pool is small, and the hot tub was nice. Breakfast was good, with waffles and other hot foods, and the dining room was clean, pleasant, and had lots of seating. Our room was small and quaint, just okay, and the cleaning was decent but could have been better. The hotel was dealing with problems during our stay because a suite had caught fire. All in all, everything was just okay.
