Quality Inn Durango

I’ve stayed here twice in two years while skiing at Purgatory, just 20 miles away. The rooms are roomy, clean, and inexpensive, and the staff are warm and friendly. I’d definitely recommend this place. 👍

I’m a frequent guest of this motel chain and a member of its rewards program. You can see how many nights I’ve stayed this year. I plan to switch to another hotel chain in 2026. I didn’t stay here. I booked and paid in advance through the Choice Hotels app, but the property required a $200 cash deposit from guests living within 75 miles. I officially live in Hesperus, Colorado, and didn’t have the cash. I repeatedly offered to let them charge my card if I damaged the room, but they insisted: pay cash or leave. I left and checked into Mainstay Suites in Durango, where my credit card was accepted and no cash deposit was required. When I left this property, I immediately disputed the charge with my bank on July 21, 2025. The motel keeps contesting that dispute, and they won’t communicate with me, only with the bank handling it. Please see the attached photo of the email I sent them. Their reply makes it sound like they never offered to take only the $100 cash deposit. A hotel chain that fights a complaint like this seems hard up. Guests should be accommodated. I may take my complaint to the Better Business Bureau. They come across as desperate for business and money. Weary travelers, beware of this establishment!

A confirmed reservation was canceled by the hotel just days before my stay, without a reason or any explanation beforehand. When I contacted Choice Hotels to sort it out, they hung up on me. There was no accountability or customer service, and the experience left me unable to rely on them. Avoid this place if your travel plans matter to you.

One of the worst places I’ve stayed. There were bugs, and they charged more than the room cost. I didn’t get my full authorization hold back. Management hasn’t returned my calls, the voicemail is full, and two emails got no response. He said the refund was sent on 10/6. I recommend staying elsewhere.
